A Little About St Lucia

St. Lucia, sandwich between Martinique and St. Vincent, in the Caribbean is a home of natural beauty. With 238 square miles, as with many of the Caribbean Islands, it comes with its share of conquers from the European.

With its breathtaking mountains, which includes the twin peaks, Pitons mountains and the springs of Soufriere with its bubbling sulfur, it's no surprise that it was fought over.

This country, rich in vegetation, is the leader in the Caribbean, in the quantity of banana that it regularly exports to other parts of the world. With a large variety of mangoes, and other fruits such as pineapples and guavas, and callaloo leaves, cassava and pumpkin in terms of vegetables, St. Lucia is known for the tasty dishes that its people prepare.

St. Lucia is also the birthplace of the well-known poet and playwright, Mr. Derek Walcott. Mr. Walcott was awarded the WH Smith Literary Award in 1990 and in 1992 he gained the prize for literature. One of his skillful written pieces is the poem, Omeros.

Additionally, Sir Arthur Lewis, who is also a famous poet and playwright, Llewellyn Xavier, an artist whose work is also recognized around the world and many other gifted people were born here.

Tourism, in recent years has taken a vital role in the country's economy and visitors have a lot to look forward to. Apart from the country's natural attractions, which includes bird watching and hiking, there are many water sports to dive into on superb beaches, golfing, and horseback riding, just to mention a few, to be enjoy.
